90 Minute coaching skills Training session
Coaching skills training, only 30% of managers in the UK know how to coach
effectively. Coaching needs to be the heartbeat of the company and the
management skills to develop the teams. It is a directive (offering direction) process by a manager to train and orient/induct
an employee to the realities of the workplace and to help the employee remove
barriers to optimum work performance and work towards the vision of the
company. It’s a
little more asking questions and a little less telling people what to do
What a Coach Does - In
practice:
- A coach
focuses on the agenda of the coachee. The coachee decides which goals or
problems to work on, not the coach.
- A coach
uses powerful questions to generate new learning. The coach does not teach or
advise but asks questions and listens.
- A coach
encourages action. The coachee develops his or her own action steps, not the
assignments of the coach.
- A coach
supports change. A coach follows-up to support personal learning, growth, and
change.
Through
ongoing conversations, coaches facilitate personal growth and goal attainment
quicker, easier, and more comfortable than going it alone. Coachee’s
are figuratively “carried” to their desired result by the coaching process.
That’s what “coach” really means.
The issue with most managers
is that they know (or think they know) the answers and it’s easier and quicker
to just tell a team member what to do, but that doesn’t help anyone, it doesn’t
develop the team member into a motivated self-directed member of staff who can
think for themselves – a lack of coaching actually develops an overdependent
team.
Coaching is about asking the
right questions and having the coachee come up with the answers for
themselves.
